[China Aluminum Network]China’s import volume of bauxite has been increasing sharply this year.

Learnt from officials of Chalco and Shangdong Xinfa Aluminum, Indonesia had came news of restricting the export of bauxite.

This news exerts great pressure on the aluminum oxide industry in China. 60% of China’s bauxite depends on import. From 2008, 80% of bauxite is from Indonesia. Furthermore, the import channel for bauxite is becoming increasingly singularized. In the recent two months, only Indonesia and Australia are exporting bauxite to China. But in the first half of 2011, the exporting countries also include India, Malaysia, Turkey, etc.

An official from Shangdong Xinfa Aluminum said, once the Indonesian government begins to restrict the export of bauxite, China’s aluminum industry will be severely shocked.

Indonesia is one of the major bauxite exporting countries in the world. It has a bauxite stock of more than 20million tons. Due to its high grade, Indonesia’s bauxite is very popular in the global market. Currently, 80% of China’s imported bauxite is from Indonesia..
