Aluminum prices extended their gains Thursday, with the base metals contract boosted by power outages in China and South Africa that have cut production in the energy-intensive industry. Aluminum for delivery in three months closed at $2,685 per metric ton, up from $2,674.50 Wednesday, according to official prices in the London Metal Exchange. Prices have rallied 9% in the last week. China is the world's largest producer and consumer of the lightweight metal.
