BEIJING (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- China's aluminum output will decrease by at least 200,000 tons in 2008 due to snow storm-induced power shortage in central and south China, analysts with Essence Securities say.
About 1 million tons of aluminum production capacities have been shut down due to the power shortage in central and south China, which has lasted for more than a week.
The output decrease estimate was according to the assumption that the production will resume in early March.
The output-fall prospect is fuelling anticipation that the country's non-ferrous metal prices will rise in the future. And in response, non-ferrous stocks, represented by leading producer Aluminum Corp of China Ltd (Chalco, 601600.SH, ACH.NYSE) in the Chinese mainland markets begin to rally relatively strongly Jan. 30.
