    Chinalco and Sapa to Manufacture Light Rail Raw Materials

    (China Aluminium Network) Chongqing Economy and Information Commission news: Aluminum Corporation of China (ACH) cooperated with Sweden Sapa Group, the world’s third largest aluminum producer, to invest to build production base for rail special aluminum in Chongqing.


    As per the joint agreement, Chinalco and Sapa will jointly invest 630 million Yuan to set up a joint venture. Either party will take 50% share of the joint venture. As expected the joint venture will set up a production base for aluminum profile in Chongqing Xipeng Aluminum Industrial Park. The project is planned to start within 2011 and put into production in 2013.


    Li Zhangwan, expert of Chongqing Economy and Information Commission Equipment Manufacturing Industry disclosed that a light rail train would use 1 tons of aluminum, and a light rain comprise of 6 carriages. That is to say that a train will use more than 40 tons of aluminum alloy materials. When the project is put into production, it is expected that annual capacity of rail aluminum and train body can reach 20,000 tons. The products will be sold to Chongqing city and other cities.
