Chalco Cuts Aluminium Production in Guizhou due to Power Shortage

SHANGHAI (Interfax-China) -- The Aluminum Corporation of China Co. Ltd. (Chalco) [NYSE:ACH], China's largest alumina and aluminium producer, has cut primary aluminium production at two of its plants in southwestern China's Guizhou Province since mid-December last year due to power shortages in the province, officials from the two plants told Interfax today.
Chalco Zunyi Aluminum, located in Guizhou's city of Zunyi, has reduced capacity by the equivalent of 60,000 tonnes since mid-December last year, a company official, who wished to remain anonymous said.
The company normally has an annual production capacity of 110,000 tonnes of primary aluminium, and produced 100,000 tonnes of primary aluminium in 2007. It relies solely _disibledevent="Times New Roman">
