Beijing–Ministry of Finance has called off import tariff of alumina and refined copper, and exposed export tax to part of steel products and coke to further encourage imports of raw material and limit exports of high-pollution products.
Chinese government has raised metal products export tariff for several times and cut export rebate of most metal products to restrain investment to high energy-consuming and high-pollution industry. However, the measure to lower bulk commodities import tariff is to encourage resource imports to fulfill the increasing demand in China.
China has been bringing in measures to encourage exports since 90s to accelerate economic growth. But these measures are being placed by new policies gradually.
Following is the table of main commodity export and import tariff for 2008 and 2007. New temporary tariff rate comes in effect since Jan 1, 2008.
