  • Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) representing the Indonesian iron
and steel producers welcome the International Iron, Steel & Aluminum Expo and Forum
(INASAL) 2012 which aims to support the growth of the national steel industry. Steel
industry is strongly related to the backward linkage with the mining industry and energy,
while the forward linkage with the manufacturing industry, transportation, construction,
automotive, shipbuilding, oil and gas, defense and others. It is sufficient to say the steel
industry plays a vital role in the development of national economy.
IISIA is fully aware the demand of industry and user community for quality steel products at
competitive prices. To achieve this, the domestic steel mills are constantly working to
develop and improve the efficiency of the production process by adopting the latest and
most reliable technology. A number of national steel producers including joint-venture
companies have put plans on the construction of blast furnaces to produce iron of high
quality with competitive costs as material for steel production.
As an umbrella organization of steel producers – from upstream to downstream, IISIA hope
this event could pave the way for the establishment of a national vision for the development
of steel industry as the main pillar of the national manufacturing industry. This vision is
important as a base of policy analysis needed to strengthen the structure of the steel
industry. Infrastructure development policy, energy sector, an integrated international trade
is needed to accelerate re-industrialization of the Indonesian economy.
The free trade agreement that has opened the domestic market is a challenge to be faced by
domestic manufacturers now and even more so in the future. Production processes and
efficient logistics management with the right marketing strategy to meet the needs of the
user industry is key to the success of national steel industry in the face of increasing
    competition.
IISIA congratulate and wish great success for the organizer and all participants of INASAL.
